Bootcut vs Wide Leg vs Loose Fit: A Raw Selvedge Jeans Guide

Start at the hem. In our black denim range, bootcut has a subtle flare over the shoe. Wide leg keeps a broad, straight line from knee to hem. Loose fit has a relaxed shape through the thigh and leg. Here is how to compare our three cuts before choosing a size.

Our model is 185 cm / 6′1″ tall and wears size L in all three fits. Use the product photos to compare the shapes, then check the garment measurements against a pair you own. Height alone does not determine your size.

Bootcut vs wide leg vs loose fit at a glance

A quick comparison of CHILLMIND's black denim fits
Fit Shape What to check first
Bootcut A full-length leg with a subtle flare at the hem. How the opening sits over your shoes.
Wide leg Room through the thigh and leg, with a wide, straight line from knee to hem. The amount of volume you want through the whole leg.
Loose fit A relaxed, full-length silhouette with room through the thigh and leg. Waist fit, leg room and overall length together.

How bootcut sits over your shoes

Start with bootcut jeans if you want the opening to flare slightly around your footwear. The black CHILLMIND bootcut has a full-length cut and a subtle flare at the hem.

Look at the side view as well as the front. A hem that catches on the top of a shoe will sit differently from one that falls over it. Try the jeans with the footwear you expect to wear most. If you want them to cover a pair of boots, compare the opening with that actual boot rather than relying on the fit name.

How wide leg falls from knee to hem

Our wide leg jeans have a broad silhouette that continues down to the hem. The black wide leg pair has generous room through the thigh and leg, wide hems, and a straight line from knee to hem.

In a full-length product photo, check where the top ends, how much of the shoe remains visible, and whether the hem gathers above it. A shorter jacket leaves more of the leg visible. A longer tee covers more of the top of the jeans.

What to compare when choosing loose fit

CHILLMIND's loose fit jeans also have room through the thigh and leg. The black loose fit style combines that relaxed, full-length shape with contrast pocket detailing.

Loose fit and wide leg can overlap in appearance. Compare the rise and leg opening for your size as well as the photos. A wider hem alone does not tell you how much room there is at the hip or thigh.

Compare the three fits in size L

These are the size L garment measurements from our current black product pages. Our model wears L in all three fits.

CHILLMIND black jeans, size L. All measurements in centimetres.
Fit Waist Front rise Leg opening, flat Outseam
Bootcut 85 31 30 109
Wide leg 85 29 31.5 109
Loose fit 85 32 31 108

All three have an 85 cm waist in L. The wide leg's opening is 0.5 cm wider than the loose fit's, while its front rise is 3 cm shorter. Check those details together when choosing between the two. The waist measurement is the full circumference; the leg opening is the flat width across one hem. Front rise and outseam include the waistband.

For another size, use the chart on the individual product page. The measurement tables also have an inches option.

Compare the measurements before choosing a size

Lay a pair of jeans you already like flat and compare the same measurements with the product's size chart. Use the same units throughout.

  • Waist: check whether the chart uses full circumference or flat width. The three CHILLMIND charts compared here use full circumference.
  • Front rise: compare where the waistband sits. Measure from the crotch seam to the top of the front waistband.
  • Leg opening: compare the width across one opening laid flat. Do not compare that number directly with a circumference.
  • Outseam: measure from the top of the waistband to the hem along the outside leg. This is different from inseam length.

Keep waist fit separate from the silhouette you want. Sizing up changes more than the leg width. Check the resulting rise and length too.

Finish with a shoe and length check

When trying on a pair, stand naturally in your usual shoes, then walk a few steps. Look at the hem from the side and back. Decide how much fabric you want to gather above the shoe and check whether the hem drags. Repeat with another shoe if you regularly switch between different sole heights.

The black styles compared here are listed as raw/unwashed and pre-shrunk. Follow the garment's care instructions and confirm any care questions before making permanent alterations. A fit name or pre-shrunk label does not promise an exact change after washing.

Start with the cut whose shape you prefer, then use that product's chart to choose a size. Compare the bootcut, wide leg and loose fit collections with your own jeans and shoes in mind.
